Relaxing Time
Did a little crafting yesterday - made a few felt tree ornaments- but mostly read. I read book 4 & 5 of C. Harris' Dead series.. on book 6 this morning.
Going to stop by the craft store today and pick a few colors of felt and thread.
Going to wear my new flower today - from Eddie's mom

Craft Room Envy
I don't have a craft room. Well, technically, I do. I have a large laundry/mud room with a lot of cupboards where crafts can live. However, it is the laundry room and the family's main entrance, which means dirty laundry, shoes, cat box, cat food, recycling, etc. I probably wouldn't do crafts in there anyway, not even if I cleared off the built in desk. Why... well, because it wouldn't be cozy.. like this
Currently, depending on what is happening and, perhaps, who I am trying to escape, I just load my crafting tools into this bin - it all stacks quite lovely - and carry it up and down the stairs to my cozy chairs (or on vacation).
Where they live when I am in the mood to put them away is here
Please note I have had this bin for a while and haven't felt the need to replace my sharpie with labels (it would make the buttons harder to see).. Also note my dwindling collection *sniffles* I know, gentle reader, you may be asking yourself how anyone could bemoan a tub full of craftiness and a slew of pretty bobbins...

Of course, with the holidays upon us it does not look this way currently but is stuffed with stuffing and other random bits of things I am getting to.
So I must ask you take a small trip to V for Violet and look at her shelves of candy like objects and stacks of fabric. And then... well, I'll show you the horror of my almost gone fabric and felt ....
And there there are at 98 more that will probably make us all feel even worse at Kootoyoo - Creative Spaces *wipes away a dramatic faux tear*
But my once a month payday is tomorrow.. and after bills I THINK I have a few dollars for play. WOOT!
And because I am taking the day off to play (so really, how bad can we feel for me).. here are a few little things I'm working on for the Holidays

No, I haven't overcome this phobia
Yesterday Dooce posted her commentary on "Overcoming Phobias". Please visit and read = enjoy the giant rubber spider at the top of the post. I sure did.
I read the post with no squirming and lots of chuckles. i also commented.

Last night, while working my way through "Club Dead" (book III in C. Harris' Dead Series about Sookie Stackhouse) I looked up to see a fairly large spider some distance away from me (say 12 feet) on the far wall in the corner.
As it is so far away and not scurrying towards me I casually call Eddie from the computer and point to the wall. He picks up a napkin and proceeds to smush it.
As I am sitting by the downstairs dust bin (under the end table) I'm not surprised or worried when he approaches me with the "kilt" spider. However, he acts as though he's going to toss the napkin as me and while I don't believe him his quiet, "Oops" and the large black thing which lands on my chest is enough to convince me he's been possessed by the devil.
I squealed and leaned forward so far I fall out of my rocker. Crying.
Eddie is hysterical with glee and I am sobbing and screaming. And as my eye (in my forward motion of falling onto my knees to the floor) lands on the spider I realize it is one of my clever spider rings for Halloween. Which, of course, just happened to be about the same size as the dead spider still held in Eddie's napkins.
At this point Eddie is crying because he's laughing so hard. I'm trying to laugh, while I'm crying, so I don't worry Aurora.
Definite sign I need a few days to myself to watch things like Little Women so I can cry and get it all out of me.

What's Hot & What's Not, Early Edition
Idea from Loobylu
HOT
Winning Awesome Things: The inspiration for the early posting is thanks to Two Tuesdays, who I found through the WHWN listing on Loobylu. She listed these amazing mugs to giveaway (I know.. right?? GIVE THEM AWAY?) I made the assumption that I wouldn't win based on my location in relation to Ms Tuesday (the latter being in Australia). BUT I WON! WOOT
Being Give More Awesome Things: I'm not sure what my horoscope says today, but it IS my lucky day. Debi brought me two things (that her mother made)for my house. They are amazing!
hope Eddie can wire the chandelier to hang over my kitchen sink.
Making Someone's Day: Operation Beautiful. I see kits in my friend's and family's future.
NOT
Dirty dishes
running very low on felt and thread (hurry Friday hurry)
Needing a good three days alone and not getting it

What's Hot & What's Not
For other Hot/Not lists and lovely blog reading and craftiness visit Loobylu
HOT
Impromptu Recitals: I brought Aurora to work with me on Friday. As one might imagine, she loves the college campus. And there are numerous places where one may be inspired. During a previous evening work visit she discovered the joys of auditoriums and was excited to revisit said auditorium to give a performance. Without hesitation she jumped on stage, stood behind a music stand and delivered to her audience of one. On the walk back to my office she also wanted to sing on Boone steps (where most of our outside concerts happen). My friend and co-worker, Frances, got to experience this concert. And after lunch, outside the caf, she had me sit on a bench while she stood on rocks and sang "run" by snow patrol to the 50 people milling around. It was beautiful and fun and I love how adventurous she is.
Fancy Cut & Color: I spend very little on my hair (when I manage to get it cut) and coloring usually involves rite-aid, a box, and die splatters in my bathtub, on the cupboards and the bathroom floor. BUT my lovely co-workers bought me a gift certificate to a fancy studio for my birthday (yes that was 8 months ago). I have been wondering what I want to do most and have been thinking a good hair cut would last most of the winter and make life more fun. So this afternoon I head to the studio. I hope pictures make next week's WH list.
Pumpkins (and gourds, of course): Our house usually lacks in pumpkins during Halloween, but not this year! Attended a lovely Pumpkin Carving party (another one on the way) and can't wait to paint pumpkins with Aurora.
Giving the gift of Darcy: So excited to have been able to give the ever necessary Mr. Darcy (that's right the BBC Pride & Prejudice) to a very deserving person! Made both our days.
NOT
Running low on craft supplies: ACK! I suffer from the misfortune of only being paid once a month - the last business day of the month. My Christmas crafts are lacking at the moment due to running out of white/green/red embroidery thread.. and even purple and gold (college colors) which I plan to make fun ornaments for upcoming Winter Sale/Fundraiser.
Cleaning up after everyone else: does this need any other explanation? GRRRRR
Struggling to follow through with things that are good for me: Well, hello, morning work-outs. Do you remember me?

Run
Yes, I knew it would happen. Snow Patrol made me cry. I miss you, grandma.
I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You've been the only thing that's right
In all I've done
And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we'll make it anywhere
Away from here
Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I'll be right beside you dear
Louder louder
And we'll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can't raise your voice to say
To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbye
I nearly do
Light up...
Slower slower
We don't have time for that
All I want is to find an easier way
To get out of our little heads
Have heart my dear
We're bound to be afraid
Even if it's just for a few days
Making up for all this mess
I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You've been the only thing that's right

09 Resolutions CONTINUED
Here, at the almost end of the year, we are going to revisit the resolutions.. we shall see how far I've come, how far I have to go, and what resolutions I want to add
09 resolutions
1. blog my craft ideas and projects
RESULT = this occurred for a bit. I've been basically producing the same things over and over again, so I need to post anything new
2. find a pedal for my viking sewing machine
2b. relearn how to sew on the viking sewing machine
RESULT = Pending
3. collect inexpensive storage bins for my laundry cupboards
RESULT = FINISHED! WOOT!
3b. organize laundry room storage = fabric, crafts, projects, ready to give gifts, ready to sell crafts
RESULT = FINISHED! WOOT!
4. find a doctor and get the right tests
RESULT = Pending (but I promised grandma, so I need to get on this)
5. catch up so i'm not advancing paycheck money
RESULT = DONE!
6. Get the living room ceiling painted
RESULT = DONE!
7. to read NEW books instead of just re-reading old loves
RESULT = Have been! Yea for me, not necessarily all the ones on the list, but quite a few new books.. and soon to re-read some old loves I feel
Also a new goal - start book club!
8. eat out LESS
RESULT = this goes in cycles...and a continuous struggle
9. Frame the picture Angel painted for me in high school (yes I really have been meaning to frame it for that long)
RESULT = ACK! I have to frame the picture!
10. WRITE!
RESULT = not as plentiful as hoped

What's Hot & What's Not
This post is inspired by Loobylu.
What's Hot:
Friends who throw parties - and not just any friends, but those crazy crafty friends who are so busy they can't possibly be doing anything else, but they are.. like popcorn parties to celebrate National Popcorn Popping Month (October - get on it and have your own) and Pumpkin Carving parties (same friend, week later)!
This is also a slight kudos to myself as I threw a rager for a friend's 30 bday after a very long week and I didn't murder anyone, not even the guy who put his elbow through our wall, or Eddie who drank so much he couldn't make it out of bed to vomit.
Compassion - when bad things happen, terribe things.. things that wake us up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night, and people, in all their awkwardness, come together (or on their own) to do things to make someone's life better. There is no easing the pain. There are no words. But sometimes the simple act of giving a card, or a teddy bear or just standing in solidarity means more than we can ever imagine.
Remembering what is important not the nametags, not the emails, not the less than pleasant people we deal with on a daily basis, but those people who care about you and want to make your life easier and better. Remembering to not be so frustrated and tired by the time I make it home that I can't play dress up or play makeup with Aurora. I think I'm getting better at this.
What's Not
Insane number of hard things to deal with in 2009.. things like Michael Jackson's death - yes, I did take it hard. Seeing my grandma for the last time. Attending my grandmother's service. Eddie's mom having brain surgery this week. Eddie's grandma's death and service this week. Friend's tragedy this week.
People who take time to hate there are so many better things to do with one's time. A lot of people should just keep their mouths shut (including me - need to take the time to not do or say anything).
This runny nose and sore throat
