It is time for the much anticipated latest installment of HGI Outfit. You might wonder what the special occasion is. You might already know. Anyone remember where I was headed the last time we did this... or perhaps the time before that? Anyone?
If you guessed to my favourite restaurant, The Hollow (technically Highlands Hollow), you're a very dedicated reader - or you are stalking me on facebook. Either way, I am excited to announce that now that filming my scenes for Zack's movie is done (a two month break between my scenes, although they are only seconds apart on film) I am able to resume my fabulous diet.
I would ask for a drumroll, but feel like a little trumpets and a 40 piece band is more in order!
I'm down 30 lbs since December and hope to be down 30 more for the movie's premier on the big screen (renting out a local theatre) end of this summer
Not my flattering-est outfit but it's comfortable and I think it goes well with the new do.. today - courtesy of Megan at Studio D (as usual)
Love it! and my sparkly necklace is my great-grandmothers and has matching clip on earrings (which always hurt me) a brooch and a bracelet.
I also broke out my sex shoes. I dubbed them this the instant I saw them. This is only the second occasion of wearing.. so far they are not living up to the name. But I love them anyway.
If you are actually interested in any of the brand names I'm happy to look for you - just shoot me a comment or an email.
Oh, and the rockstar princess is joining too since it is also her favourite restaurant (although Papa Spud was not playing tonight)
After reading Kate's amazing list today, as well as Lola Nova's request to tell her something about ourselves, I have been inspired to list a few things that have been floating about in my brain lately as I travel on this path.
And because one of my continued goals is to be positive I'm listing things that I do best.
Making delicious margaritas
Buying little things because I want them and not because I have the money to afford them
Making flavored popcorn
Laughing
Becoming uncomfortably (for others I think) attached to fictional characters
Today's edition contains four items I would want if I were graduating... (or actually just at all, but I thought it would be more fitting since commencement is commencing all over the world)
A few fun things I plan to do something with shortly.. although currently they are sitting in the corner of my bedroom in a box.
Cute sheet with which I want to make at least a skirt for Aurora, possibly more, but since I'm too frightened to even take mom's sewing out of the box she sent it in .. could be a while.
Look at this lovely frame?! I almost like the birdie too. Not quite my style however, so I have a feeling I might try to pick up some batting and turn this into a fabric board.
the next two are cheating a bit, but I got them the same day.. just I didn't find them.. my mom did and then gave them to me.
A mirror... just need to decoupage the frame. The picture looks funny, but only because it was taken in my bedroom and the walls (and ceiling) are painted that maroon.
And this cute shelf mom painted. Think it goes pretty well with my kitchen decor so just need to find the right spot.
Spoiled myself with going out and getting new felt. I was desperately low and my lack of felt was putting quite a kabosh on my creative endeavors... but that's fixed now.
I now have a little drawer restocked and trimmed to (owl)ie size. I also take some and turn into other (owl)ie bits, such as beaks, eyes, and wings.
And then we match them with eyes and fabric and put them in my little cauldron to work on as time allows...
And I've put together a little birthday present for someone..
As always, the lovely Kirsty is hosting lots of crafty ladies at Kootoyoo :)
Motherhood is making me quite twitchy and angry tonight...
So I'm looking to find that zen place I had this weekend. It was a lovely weekend. I don't have any pictures to prove it, but I promise it was filled with warm grass and cool margaritas.
Saturday Aurora and I went into the big city for a baby shower and our little monkey ended up not too badly, but a little wonky z,.................... [sorry but this message has been interrupted by a squalling misbehaving four-year-old who is supposed to be in bed but this is the FOURTH time she's gotten up. This time she insists she is going to throw up because she is so hungry - yes, it is the same four-year-old who refused to eat her dinner on the grounds she was so full she was going to throw up if she ate anything else.]
... where was I?
Oh, yes, the wonky monkey. Poor little thing after getting all stuffed he looked like ET had gotten friendly with a primate. Next time, if there is a next time, I'll take better care to make him symmetrical in the head.
It was so delightfully hot at the shower I couldn't even sit out in the sun during the whole present opening production! Yea for warm weather.
Then, amazingly enough, Aurora and I continued to have a wonderful day. These are rare for us because usually after a couple hours of our combined independent and controlling ways we are ready to go a few rounds - which I hate, because she plays dirty. But we came home to play tag outside (at least for a bit until mommy had to convince Aurora another game was necessary if she didn't want to call 911 because mommy was having a heart attack).
We then loaded up her baking tub toys and a large bowl of water and she made brownies while I dove into my new book ("Flashman" by George MacDonald Fraser - proper Scottish name and the name Fraser always gets me excited).
I was interrupted a few times with questions such as, "Do brownies have people in them?" - I think perhaps our Monsterologist book and Grendel's Recipe for Danish Pies (wherein danish arms and legs are added) is being followed rather than Betty Crocker's version.
We also played Mario Party and she, "Kicked Birdie's ass". She is definitely my daughter, you see.
She watched Fraggle Rock while I folded laundry and she even did some tarot with me.
I pulled the Moon three times - and the Moon has OH MY GOOD LORD [insert many many many deleted expletives as demonic child descends for the FIFTH time this evening]
...umm, the bloody child, I mean, the moon has made an appearance in all of my recent readings. So I believe the universe has made it quite clear (how's that for ironic) that I'm on my "night journey" and "must go on with no clear path" and need to "keep my faith" and "intuition".
Sunday we slept in, or rather Aurora slept in. I lay in bed watching her beautiful little face and thinking to myself (and THIS is what I must try to remember at all times, although tonight it is being tested earnestly) that I am so very proud of the person she is. And I have to admit that if she were not this independent, controlling, demanding, questioning, imaginative and domineering I would be a bit disappointed. I just kinda wish she wouldn't dethrone me so early.
She headed to Nana's Sunday morning, and I got to do a little crafting and then go with a friend to a BBQ. It was delightful. The weather was warm and perfectly overcast and just a bit breezy. The event was at an old history professor's house in the country. He is 86 and such a treat. And the place is charming. If I hadn't (re)sworn I would never live with a man I would be moving in this instant. So a little wine and conversation was shared and then for the bonus! I got to go to dinner at Rebecca's and have margaritas and watch more TrueBlood, which is always so great for a giggle.
AND it has my favourite song for the moment (may contain disturbing scenes)
Time, once again, for another riveting installment of "I Spy". Today I have typed the word "glasses" into Etsy search and out of the 1,000,000 search results these are the four items which caught my eye.
my first attempt at a monkey... not sure what I'm going to do with that tail. maybe cut it off.. I'm going to finish stitching and stuff up a bit and see how I feel about it then.
I was very spoiled for Mothers' Day. It was delightful.
I admit I cheated right off and opened my gift from Aurora the night before.. they sent it home with her from day care and it is absolutely adorable. It has a place of honor on my hope chest with my crystals, tarot cards, keep calm posters, and my iguana:
Her favourite parts are the spots, of course.
Sunday morning we headed to mom's. First, we stopped at Dutch Bros and picked us each up a little caffeine treat and then to a yummy homemade breakie of french toast with heated syrup and sausage. And then we watched some of a movie (Planet 51 - which oddly has 4 of my favourite actors - Dwanye Johnson, Sean William Scott, Gary Oldman, and John Cleese) before heading to the thrift store. I won't show you what awesome things I got because I'm hoping to take this rare occasion to play along with Flea Market Friday!
And Nana got us a paint your tea set. So Aurora use her master skills to produce this lovely matching set:
At which point she grew tired of painting and I instead fulfilled requests.
But my shining moment is the plates.. because now her ponies will always have food to eat.
We hung out some more.. watched another movie (The Squeakel, because I LOVE the chipmunks.. honestly) and I got to work a bit more on Alex's afghan. And mom made me homemade kung pao chicken. DELICIOUS!
Spent Saturday afternoon and evening having a crafting day at my friend's place. Samantha is learning how to make jewelry (and she made some lovely piece, too). I took my mothers' day project to work on...And spent the whole time (when I wasn't eating), making this custom plaque:
"Be Green, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Be Kind, Live Well, Love Lots, Especially Yourself"
We enjoyed numerous movies (Howl's Moving Castle, Love Guru, Indian Jones and the Last Crusade, and some of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and lots of delicious snackies.
Parmesan and herb popcorn, jalapeno kettle chips, sun tea, goat cheese bruschetta
And I learned two very important things. One being what a shallot is and two what a leek is.
I am not a cook. I am abashed to say I'm not overly fond of veggies and don't really hang out in the produce aisle at the store. I have read about leeks and eaten them in things, but I have never seen one.
I almost fell over when I opened Samantha's fridge. And my first question was, "Oh my god, did you use an engorgement charm on those green onions?!"
Very shocking. I always thought leeks were something much more grass like - don't ask me why.
PS Leeks and Shallots are very inappropriate vegetables.
Fortunately, Samantha is a good cook and has known me long enough to be very patient with me
We had a great time and I can't wait for the next craft day.
I have had a great weekend! But you will have to wait a bit to hear the details because we have a lot of very anxious readers waiting with bated breath (I'm sure) to know who has one the amazing prizes!
So out came the giveaway box...
And then in went all the lovely names...
And out came...
Well, If you think this isn't kismet I'm not sure what is, because the winner of the custom plaque is Two Tuesdays! (You might remember I won her lovely mugs in my very first giveaway entry)..
Now a sample of the custom plaque is one I just finished for my mum. There are three colors to choose from: the sample green, hot pink or bright yellow
I am very excited to hear what she'll have me stitch and on what color!
Take a deep breath. Go for a walk in the sun (as weather allows). Let your eyes wander for the sidewalk and up to that blue sky and those bits of whispy clouds.
I may have almost imploded today. Just for a little bit. Not in an angry sort of way by any means, just in that overwhelmed I have the weight of the world on my shoulders kind of way.
The above steps helped put things into perspective and I laughed at myself and that imaginary world I was carrying.
And now I am relaxing.. and reading.. and updating etsy (just a little).. and playing..
AND lookie at what Selina has done! I am excitedly jumping about the house for her... and wondering how I get that lovely clock for myself! Stop in and let her know what you think when you get a mo' and you did need that mo' I assure you.
